On May 27, 2023, the Medical Sciences Division - Faculty of Chinese Medicine successfully organized another lecture titled "Distinguished Lecture" and "Forum of TCM Masters." The lecture featured Professor Lao Lixing, President of the Virginia University of Integrative Medicine (VUIM) and a renowned acupuncture expert. Professor Lao shared his over 40 years of experience and achievements in acupuncture clinical practice, teaching, and scientific research with the teachers and students of M.U.S.T. He provided a detailed description of the development history and current situation of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture in the U.S. The M.U.S.T. teachers and students actively participated and communicated with Professor Lao, and the event achieved excellent results. Prior to the lecture, Professor Lao Lixing also visited the Faculty of Chinese Medicine and the Teaching Laboratories for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Both parties discussed and reached a preliminary agreement on international cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine.
Before the lecture began, Professor Zeng Li, Dean of the Faculty of Chinese Medicine, delivered a speech expressing her welcome and gratitude to Professor Lao for coming to M.U.S.T. to attend the "Distinguished Lecture" and "Forum of TCM Masters". She also presented Professor Lao with a commemorative souvenir. Professor Lao gave a wonderful speech entitled "Acupuncture Clinical Research and Its Impact on the USA Healthcare System", sharing his over 40 years of experience and academic thinking in acupuncture, teaching, and research, and introduced the development of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture in the United States. Its history, current situation, professional certification, talent training, etc., Professor Lao's sharing provided students with the opportunity to learn from the master's experience, helping them grasp the relevant disciplinary trends, broadening their horizons, and understanding the development and practice of traditional Chinese medicine in the U.S. This knowledge is beneficial for students considering further studies or careers abroad. The lecture involved active participation and interaction from the faculty staff and students, achieving satisfactory results.
Prior to the lecture, Professor Lao Lixing visited the Faculty of Chinese Medicine and the Teaching Laboratories for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He was warmly received by Dean Zeng Li and the faculty staff. The two sides held a symposium, focusing on in-depth cooperation in the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine and other collaborative efforts. Both parties reached a preliminary agreement on future cooperation.
Professor Lao Lixing is an internationally renowned expert in traditional Chinese medicine (acupuncture). He currently serves as the president of the Virginia University of Integrative Medicine, vice president of The World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Societies (WAFA), and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Integrative Medicine. He has previously held positions such as the dean of the School of Chinese Medicine at the University of Hong Kong and a professor at the Medicine Division of the University of Maryland. He has published more than 300 SCI academic papers and participated in the preparation of 10 monographs.
