Recently, a delegation from Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), led by Vice President Professor Paul Kwong-Hang Tam, together with Assistant Professor Yan Chen and Assistant Professor Bo Li from the Medical Sciences Division, visited Shanghai Children’s Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The visit focused on collaboration in pediatric medicine, precision regenerative medicine, biliary atresia, liver fibrosis, pediatric intestinal diseases, clinical research, and translational medicine.
During the visit to Shanghai Children’s Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, President Professor Bing Lu, Vice President Professor Liling Qian, Director Professor Haitao Zhu of the Scientific Research Office, and representatives from relevant departments received the MUST delegation. The delegation visited clinical and research platforms at the hospital and learned about its development in the diagnosis and treatment of major pediatric diseases, pediatric surgery, clinical research, scientific innovation, and research translation.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on biliary atresia, liver fibrosis, pediatric intestinal diseases, clinical sample resources, disease cohort development, and translational medicine collaboration. They also discussed future opportunities for joint research projects, talent exchange, academic activities, and multicenter clinical studies.
Professor Paul Kwong-Hang Tam introduced the history of MUST, the development of its medical disciplines, and the establishment of its precision regenerative medicine initiatives. He noted that, by leveraging the coordinated development of Macao and Hengqin, MUST has continued to strengthen its strategic development in precision regenerative medicine, biliary atresia, liver fibrosis, tissue repair, and translational medicine, with the aim of promoting deeper integration between basic research and clinical needs. Professor Yan Chen and Assistant Professor Bo Li also exchanged views with hospital experts on precision regenerative medicine platform development, biliary atresia, liver fibrosis, and pediatric intestinal disease research.
Subsequently, the delegation visited Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. President Professor Hao Zhang and relevant representatives received the delegation and introduced the center’s development in the diagnosis and treatment of major pediatric diseases, clinical research platforms, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Both sides exchanged views on pediatric precision medicine, regenerative medicine, biliary atresia, liver fibrosis, and clinical translational collaboration.

This visit further strengthened the connection between MUST and high-level pediatric medical institutions in Shanghai, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration in biliary atresia, liver fibrosis, pediatric intestinal diseases, regenerative medicine, and clinical translation. Moving forward, the parties will continue to leverage MUST’s strengths in precision regenerative medicine and translational research, as well as the clinical resources, disease cohorts, and pediatric specialty strengths of high-level pediatric hospitals in Shanghai, to promote research collaboration, talent exchange, and research translation.
