To deepen the integration of medical education between Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau universities, establish a high-quality platform for academic exchange and cultural experience, and enhance students' skills in clinical practice, critical thinking and cross-team collaboration, Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) Faculty of Medicine and The Fifth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (FAHSYSU) conducted a joint clinical medical student exchange and experience activity from January 9 to 10, 2026.

The opening ceremony of the event started at 10 am on January 9 at the administrative building of FAHSYSU, hosted by Project Leader Mr. Wu Qing. Mr. Wu warmly welcomed MUST Faculty of Medicine Assistant Dean Prof. Daniel Baptista-Hon, Prof. Lok Si Chong, and the participating medical students.
Following that, Prof. Bi Fangfang, Director of the Education Department of FAHSYSU, delivered a speech, emphasizing that this exchange activity aims to build a platform for young medical students to "learn knowledge, practice skills, broaden horizons, and forge friendships."

Prof. Bi pointed out that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is an important national development strategic region, and the collaborative advancement of medical education and the joint cultivation of medical talents are core supports for promoting the health sector in the Greater Bay Area. This exchange activity not only showcases the educational achievements of FAHSYSU but also promotes interaction in medical education in Hong Kong and Macau, helping students better understand the diversity and complexity of healthcare.
Year 3 medical student Li Zhuoru expressed gratitude on behalf of his peers towards the MUST Faculty of Medicine and FAHSYSU. He stated that as a student from the only institution in Macao providing clinical medical education, he felt honored to participate in the "Walking Together on the Medical Road of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" exchange activity at FAHSYSU. He looked forward to immersing himself in cutting-edge knowledge in topics such as psychiatry through two days of specialized lectures, visits to clinical skills centers, and campus tours. He pledged, on behalf of all participating students, to engage fully in learning, cherish this exchange opportunity, and transform their knowledge into motivation for future medical practice, expressing heartfelt thanks for the meticulous arrangements made by both institutions to promote the integration of medical education in the Greater Bay Area.

Finally, Assistant Dean Prof. Daniel Baptista-Hon from MUST Faculty of Medicine delivered a speech on behalf of the Faculty. He first expressed sincere gratitude to FAHSYSU for their continuous support and contributions to MUST Faculty of Medicine. He highlighted that the opportunity for fifth-year and sixth-year medical students to undergo clinical training at FAHSYSU has played a crucial and far-reaching role in the overall development of the medical curriculum at the Faculty. Subsequently, Prof. Han encouraged the students present to cherish this valuable experience, urging them to take advantage of this opportunity to learn from experienced clinicians, understand different healthcare systems, and enhance their clinical reasoning, professional competence, and teamwork skills. He hoped that students would approach this exchange program with a thirst for knowledge, a humble spirit, and a determination to pursue excellence.

Macau University of Science and Technology Medical Students Visit Sun Yat-sen University for Exchange and Experience Activities
This exchange activity will include themed speeches, clinical skills training, and visits to Sun Yat-sen University and the Sun Yat-sen Former Residence, among many enriching components. It is believed that students will gain extensive insights during these two days. The Faculty also hopes that this activity will sow the seeds of medical education exchange in the hearts of the students, further strengthen the cooperation between the two institutions, and jointly promote the development of healthcare in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
